Er is enige verwarring ontstaan over deze functie m.n. over het wissen van gebruikersgegevens.

In het kort:
In iedergeval vanaf DSM5 ergens na een bepaalde update worden die gegevens niet meer gewist zoals voorheen.
Dit gedrag is niet in de release notes te vinden als wijziging.

Heb hiervoor een ticket ingelegd bij Synology voor een verklaring (in het Engels uiteraard):

There is some confusing about an option in DSM 5.0-4493 Update 2 and 3:
Option: Control Panel > Update & Restore > Restore Defaults.

Starting with the header that shows: "All user data stored on the drives will be erased....."
On that point I had the experience that this is true, everything on your volume(s) would be erased or formatted, the process shows also: "Data partition formatting" (translating from Dutch).
The Help function and Manual is showing te same.

To make this short, I tested this on my TEST DS111 running DSM 5.0-4493 Update 3.
Hoever, after the process was finished see below "Problem Reproduce Steps" and logged in DSM, I saw DSM 5.0-4493 without any Update (that's correct) but, my volume1 was still there with all the data.

Before Update 2 (I believe) and certainly in DSM4 this was not the case e.g. all user data was gone.

So, the questions are:

1 - Is this a Bug in the procedure since DSM 5.0-4493 Update 1 or 2 ?
2 - Is this procedure not a Bug but has been changed ? Meaning, volume(s) will not be formatted anymore.

If the intention is to not format the user data (volumes) anymore then, please correct the Application, Help and Documention at that point.

Make sure you have shared map(s) with data.

- Go to Control Panel > Update & Restore > Restore Defaults
- Click the Restore Defaults Button and follow up the Wizard until the messages: "Diskstation is rebooting."

- When DS is rebooted then start DSAssistant.exe and search for the DS concerning.
- Install (in my case) DSM_DS111_4493.pat
- You will see in progress screen: "Data partition formatting"
- When all is done, DS ready for login.

- Login DS
- Go to File Station, and you will see all Shared Maps and all Data in it.

Op welke DS heb je dit eigenlijk getest ?
Mag aannemen niet op je DS1513+  ;)

Ben eigenlijk wel benieuwd of jurgen323 nog heeft kunnen testen (citaat is van het andere Topic):

Welke optie moet ik ook alweer hebben @Birdy bij afbeelding 3?

Het ziet er bij DSM 4.3 anders uit. Hier kun je dus duidelijk een keuze maken voor wel of niet formatteren.
Bij DSM 5.0 is dat anders.

Dan update ik even naar 5.0 . Maak nog wel even een snapshot. Dan kan ik weer terug als het moet.

Update naar 5.0 wil even niet zo makkelijk schijnbaar. Doe mijn best iig om het vandaag nog zover te krijgen


Update 12:36 uur :
Update naar 5.0 wil nog niet op mijn vitualbox synology 3612xs.
Ook niet handmatig, ga nog ff prutsen.

Als je upgrade naar 5 gereed is dan ook update 3 installeren.

Vandaag een mailtje ontvangen van Technical Support Synology:

M.a.w., het is dus een BUG en deze wordt opgelost in DSM 5.1.

Dus, ALS je die functie gebruikt en de user partitie is nog aanwezig (b.v. volume1), dan is mijn advies om die volume te verwijderen en weer opnieuw deze volume aan te maken.
Dan heb je het resultaat die je mag verwachten als je deze functie gebruikt.

Ik heb begrepen dat DSM 5.1 er aan zit te komen, 18 september Event wordt de Beta gepresenteerd.
Dus, zodra deze beschikbaar is (zal dan niet lang meer duren, gaan ik weer testen  ;)

Ik heb getest met 5.1 en de bug is er uit.

Dus, eerst upgrade gedaan naar 5.1 en daarna Standaardinstellingen herstellen gestart.
Met Assistent weer 5.1 geïnstalleerd, gekeken in File Station en alles was weg.
