We had a NAS that was working properly through FTP. It was accessible and could write to FTP properly. Since latest update, when i connect through smartFTP client or FileZilla, i see that the PASV command (227) returns with port number 34411 where i specified the 'default' range in the NAS. It looks like that the configuration in the NAS is not set / the FTP service is not returning the correct PASSIVE ports properly.
I changed the SMBftp config file manually in the NAS and modified the highest/lowest port number and killed the ftp process and restarted it and after that it was working properly. But after reboot it again did not work.
Has something changed here?

I think that the reboot changed your dmb config file again.
did u check if the ports are still defined in ur config file?
-
they are gone, but the weird thing is that i would expect those to be set from the Admin UI (FTP configuration). So i can add it manually again, but i would expect them to be set from the Admin user interface. What configuration is taken as default after reboot? It is copied from somewhere else, rit?

I think there is a standard config loaded at startup and therefore ur config gets overwritten.
i think you should have to copy ur version to a different location and create a script that copies this file to the current directory of the config file.
The default config file will than be overwritten by uw own one after each reboot.

Have a look at the /usr/syno/etc.defaults dir.
I think that this is the location of the standard configs.
otherwise you should add a copy command in /usr/syno/etc.defaults/rc.d/S99ftpd.sh at the start and restart commands.
something like
cp -f /path/to/file/config.conf /location/to/config/to/overwrite/config.conf
I couldn't find a SMBftp config file on my Synology. (maybe because i do nog have FTP running?)

Thanks Raptile,
i cannot access the nas right now, i will check tonight and respond. The ftp in Synology is Samba alike ftp and not a normal linux ftp daemon ...
The DSM version is 4.0-2228. I will let you know.
