Titel: DiskStation package: optware voor PPC DiskStations
Bericht door: ed_x op 21 november 2006, 01:32:12
Optware package for PowerPC based DiskStations

For our English users:
The promised package, where you only have to install a package! This makes the old guide obsolete. Optware is the base system for any other addon, so you have to install this before installing addons like SABnzbd.

Requirements for this patch:

- A Clean DiskStation

Instructions

Installation:

- You have to place syno-optware.tar.bz2 in your 'public' directory of your DiskStations' share / ftp

- If you need to set a DNS address for the DiskStation (there was none added here when mine was clean), create a textfile called 'syno-dns.txt' in your 'public' directory of your DiskStation. Edit it, and type / paste the IP address of your DNS server (usually the IP of your router, same as default gateway). Thus, the content of this -only- contains the IP address.

- Open the DiskStations administration page in your webbrowser, and apply 'enable-optware.pat' as a firmware upgrade. Important note: this will fail with an exit code 42. This is done to fool the DiskStation, so it won't reboot after the patch.

Removal:

- Apply 'disable-optware.pat' as a firmware upgrade.

About & Credits

This 'firmware' does not contain a binary, like you usually find when upgrading firmware of some piece of hardware. Instead, this is just a  simple shell script, which makes the 'firmware' very low-risk to apply. As you might have noticed, the patch is a tarball file.

Mocht de installatie nou niet werken, geen paniek. Meld het gewoon en draai de un-installer.
